Therapeutic bush experiences
Able 2 offer two bush experiences, Bush Adventure Therapy and Outdoor Explore.
Able2 provides an engaging specialist therapy service which utilises the natural bush environment of the Blue Mountains as its setting.
Bush Adventure Therapy
Bush Adventure Therapy (BAT) is a diverse field of practice combining adventure in outdoor environments with the intention to achieve therapeutic outcomes for those involved (Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy). BAT provides individual counselling, therapeutic activities and physical experiences in natural environments to assist clients to build motivation to allow them to work towards increasing their self-awareness and achieving positive change. BAT uses a strength-based approach and focuses on building people’s self-determination and strengths. Practitioners focus on achieving life enhancing outcomes for the client and transferring the learning’s from the bush context into their everyday lives.
Why does BAT work?
Bush Adventure Therapy provides an alternative for young people who don’t respond to the more traditional ‘counselling room’ model and offers a combination of professional interventions in nature. Practitioners view the client as capable, resourceful and focus on developing their strengths and building on their existing resilience.
Bush Adventure Therapy is an individual program for a participant and a therapist. Practitioners work with the client to individually tailor the ingredients of therapy to their specific needs.
Each session is between 2-6 hours and costs $150.00 per hour
Outdoor Explore is like no other program! It is an adventure-based program designed to give young people an opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities facilitated by highly experienced, qualified guides. Activities include canoeing, rock-climbing, abseiling, bike-riding, bushwalking & much more.
The programs provide an arena for young people to learn new skills, to confront challenges and fears in a supportive environment, and to grow in confidence and self-efficacy.
Furthermore, the adventure-based programs foster positive peer relationships through shared experience & success where the outcome for the participant is a strong sense of belonging & team-spirit.
Young people are introduced to a range of personal development and wellbeing discussion topics delivered in a unique and engaging manner.
Outdoor Explore is run in partnership with Mountains Youth Services Team (MYST). MYST are a mountains-based youth service who have delivered the Outdoor Explore program for almost 20 years and bring this depth of knowledge and experience to the Able2 program, which aims to support young people with a disability to build their capacity, independence and connection to peers in the natural environment.
