Therapeutic wilderness experiences
Able 2 offer two wilderness experiences, Wilderness Therapy and Outdoor Explore.
Wilderness Therapy is an adventure-based program where the focus is on therapy treatment for behaviour modification and interpersonal self-improvement. The program combines experiential education, individual and group therapy in a wilderness setting.
Outdoor Explore is like no other program! It is an adventure-based program designed to give young people an opportunity to participate in a range of outdoor activities facilitated by highly experienced, qualified guides. Activities include canoeing, rock-climbing, abseiling, bike-riding, bushwalking & much more.
The programs provide an arena for young people to learn new skills, to confront challenges and fears in a supportive environment, and to grow in confidence and self-efficacy.
Furthermore, the adventure-based programs foster positive peer relationships through shared experience & success where the outcome for the participant is a strong sense of belonging & team-spirit.
Young people are introduced to a range of personal development and wellbeing discussion topics delivered in a unique and engaging manner.
Outdoor Explore is run in partnership with Mountains Youth Services Team (MYST). MYST are a mountains-based youth service who have delivered the Outdoor Explore program for almost 20 years and bring this depth of knowledge and experience to the Able2 program, which aims to support young people with a disability to build their capacity, independence and connection to peers in the natural environment.
